Hi. Well, I happen to know the stretch Maastricht to Amsterdam rather well on thumb. Heerlen is near. Not of any help now, if I went from Heerlen by stop, I would either do it directly (Heerlen-A76/A2-Eindhoven-A2-Amsterdam) or over Maastricht (Heerlen-A79-Maastricht-A2-Amsterdam). Perhaps depending of the place where I'm coming from in Heerlen. You started with the first one. Fact seems to be, the easiest way to hitch all the way to Amsterdam, to leave the car on the last petrol station before Eindhoven and ask your way to Amsterdam there. Which can take a little bit of time there. There is an extremely easy spot to get to Maastricht from Heerlen, which brings you to the official hitchers spot there, which, provided you use a sign Utrecht or A'dam often leads to a ride in that direction, passing by Eindhoven. And then it is a "whistle of a cent" (according to a Dutch expression translated into English) to get to Amsterdam.
